Independent Music Monday: Mark Mathews

Every Monday we will be bringing you an unsigned singer or band as part of our Independent Music Monday feature. This week, we caught up with Mark Mathews find out more about him…

Where are you from?
Kent originally – London based.

How did you first get into music?
From a tape I found in my Mums house with a collection of classic Sixties hits.

Who were your musical influences when you were growing up and who are your influences now?
Growing Up – The Beatles, Oasis, Small Faces, Gomez, Kings of Leon, Paul Weller.
Now – I’m not really influenced by acts anymore, more odd songs here and there. I think the art of an album or a complete act is lost these days.

How would you describe your sound?
Indie-Pop (Occasionally with a folky edge).

What’s your local music scene like?
Busy and over saturated.

What do you have planned for the next 12 months? Any albums or festivals?
I am releasing a brand new track every single month throughout 2017, culminating in an album at the end of the year. Always performing gigs across the UK.

Is there anyone you’d love to collaborate with?
Paul McCartney, Noel Gallagher, Paul Weller, Pharrel.

Any funny stories surrounding your live performances?
I’ve had a lot of stage invasions in my time and on one occasion a very drunk Polish lady jumped up on stage, had a little dance before falling off the stage flat on her face. She was hammered though so didn’t feel a thing and was up dancing straight away… she probably felt it the next day mind you.

What is the one thing that you want readers to know about you?
I am releasing a new track on the last Friday of every month through my website, SoundCloud and YouTube and at the end of the year an album will be released worldwide on all streaming services and iTunes etc. I am also offering exclusive, unshared content for fans that want to get involved with the journey and sponsor me on Tradiio (tradiio.com/mark-mathews). So far January’s release has been Grape Juice and as of 24th February, California Quickly will come out.

You can find out more about Mark at his website or via Facebook, SoundCloud and Twitter.
